Heritage Ball

The 38th annual Heritage Ball will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park, adjacent to Historic Carnton Plantation, in Franklin. Cocktails are at 6:00 p.m. with a multi-course dinner and dancing to follow.  The event benefits the Heritage Foundation of Franklin & Williamson County’s efforts to protect and preserve historic resources in Franklin and Williamson County, Tennessee.  Tickets are $300 per person.

For nearly four decades, the Heritage Ball has been the most anticipated black-tie event of the year – a beautiful evening of great food, friends and fun. And with two community leaders teaming up to bring a diversity of talents to the table, the Heritage Foundation of Franklin & Williamson County expects that the 38th Annual event slated for September 24 at the Eastern Flank Battlefield Park will be one for the ages.

Tim Pagliara, chairman and chief executive officer of CapWealth Advisors of Franklin, has been named chair of the Ball, with noted designer Angela Calhoun serving as the design chair.
“We’ve put together an impressive committee of extremely talented people, and we’ve come up with some big ideas,” says Pagliara. “I don’t want to spoil too many surprises, but we can expect the results to show in everything from the menu to the music. This is going to be the Ball that no one wants to miss.”

A 27-year veteran of the securities industry, Tim formed Capital Trust Wealth Management in Franklin in early 2000. The firm now operates as CapWealth Advisors, LLC and CapWealth Investment Services, LLC, and Tim has remained involved in all aspects of investment counseling, portfolio management and personal financial planning for clients of the firm. In both 2009 and 2010 he was named one of the nation’s Top 1,000 Advisors by Barron’s magazine.

He has served in a variety of executive and fund raising leadership positions for the Heritage Foundation, Carnton Plantation, Battle Ground Academy and the Boy Scouts of America.  He is founder and president of the St. Joseph’s Teachers College Foundation, whose non-profit mission is to support the education and certification of teachers in science and math in Moshi, Tanzania.

An avid outdoorsman and hiker, Tim has hiked to the base camp of Mount Everest and climbed Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro four times, the most recent being May 2010.  He also enjoys spending time at sea level and is licensed as a United States Coast Guard 100-ton Master Captain.

Angela Calhoun is a long-time community advocate on preservation and environmental causes in Franklin and Williamson County.  She has served on the board and as president of Historic Carnton Plantation and as a founding board member of Franklin’s Charge, and she is currently vice chair of the Harpeth River Watershed Association board of directors.
————
During her tenure as executive director of Historic Carnton Plantation from 1997 to 2008, Carnton underwent an extensive, multi-million dollar preservation and restoration of the antebellum house, garden and grounds, as well as the conceptualization and design of the new visitors’ center, and the site grew to become an internationally recognized Civil War tourism destination.

Angela has also worked as an interior designer in Franklin and in Los Angeles on corporate, retail and residential projects. Locally, her work in 2007 on the historic Meeting of the Waters home on Del Rio Pike in Franklin received the Preservation Award from the Heritage Foundation.  She was also project designer for the restoration of Memorial Hall in Franklin’s Historic Presbyterian Church in 1995; the McGavock family home, Windemere, adjacent to Carnton; and a late 19th century home on West Main Street.

As designer of the 2011 Heritage Ball, Angela brings many years of experience in planning and implementing events of all sizes and descriptions, including the Sunset Concert Series and Randal McGavock Society dinners at Carnton and as co-chair of the Heritage Ball with her husband, Porter, in 2009. She is currently chairing the donor party for the opening of the Franklin Theatre in June and is co-chair of the Harpeth River Swing in October.
