Play Like a Girl On the Green Challenges Nashville Area Companies To Do Good

Registration Now Open for June 27th Charity Golf Tournament in Brentwood

NASHVILLE – Greater Nashville employers are gearing up for the 2022 Play Like a Girl On the Green Charity Golf Scramble. On June 27, local companies will vie for the title of tournament champion at the 2022 tournament.

“On the Green is a great way to reconnect, to bring people back together in a friendly competition after two years working from home and only connecting with colleagues virtually,” said Dr. Kimberly Clay, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Play Like a Girl. “We look forward to seeing Nashville’s leading companies come together in person, employees working together for a common goal – vying for bragging rights as the 2022 Play Like a Girl On the Green champion.”

Participants in the tournament can compete in the four-person scramble event as an individual or as part of a company team, completing several on-course contests including closest to the pin and longest drive. Corporate teams also have the opportunity to raise funds for the Play Like a Girl Scholarship Fund—building a pipeline of diverse young women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Teams that start fundraising ahead of the event can earn extra points in the competition. Registration is now open at iplaylikeagirl.org.

On the Green uses a four-person scramble format which allows corporate teams of four to play the course in a best ball format designed for players of all abilities. Team members all hit from the same spot on each shot, with the team selecting the best ball for their next shot. This continues until completion of the hole. This format generally eliminates the need to take penalty shots or hit from the woods or bunkers as one team member usually puts the ball in a good position. The team format of a scramble allows for lower scores, quicker rounds, and team spirit not found in the stroke play format.

The tournament draws golfers of all skill levels from all across the country, the state and the city of Nashville. Scores will be ranked on a combination of performance and participation, with teams being scored by the top finishers flighted by gender, as well as the total dollar amount a company raises for charity. The winning team will hold the custom-designed trophy as well as bragging rights for the next year. There will also be an award for the top fundraising team. In 2021, 120 players representing over 30 companies nationwide raised $215,000. Local tech company Asurion took the award for top fundraising team.

Home Medical Products, Inc. (HMP) won On the Green in 2021 and will be returning to defend their title in this year’s competition. GM, one of Play Like a Girl’s key programmatic partners, will also be fielding a team for the competition. From amateur golfers to professionals, entry-level employees to C-Suite executives, and start-ups to large corporations – everyone is welcome.

Tennessee Titans players Caleb Farley and Ola Adeniyi will play for the cause supporting equal opportunity and access for girls and women. Both Farley and Adeniyi are members of the NFL Players Association, a long-standing funding partner of Play Like a Girl.

“We are proud of NFLPA’s continued sponsorship of Play Like a Girl programs as well as their support of this great event. Caleb and Ola have promised to have a strong showing at this year’s tournament. Raising funds for Play Like a Girl and the girls we serve is driving their competitive spirit,” said Dr. Clay.

Play Like a Girl On the Green will take place in Brentwood on Monday, June 27, 2022. As one of Nashville’s only majority female golf tournaments, this iconic event includes both female and male flights. The tournament takes place at the beautiful Brentwood Country Club, a private 18-hole golf course located at 5123 Country Club Drive just off Franklin Road in the heart of Brentwood. In addition to the golf tournament on June 27, Play Like a Girl has teamed up with First Tee of Middle Tennessee to host the LPGA Girls Golf Clinic at 10:00 a.m. This exclusive girls golf experience features a host of free activities designed to inspire the next generation of women golfers and business leaders. Tournament and clinic registration information is available at iplaylikeagirl.org.
