Get Ready for Free Fishing Day in Tennessee!

Mark your calendars for the 2024 Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Day on Saturday, June 8th. On this day, all Tennessee residents and visitors can fish for free in public waters without a license. Additionally, children aged 15 and under can enjoy a week of free fishing from June 8 through June 14!

Hosted annually by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) since 1991, this event aims to introduce families and children to fishing and outdoor recreation. The TWRA stocks thousands of pounds of fish statewide each year to ensure an exciting experience. Fishing not only provides family fun but also promotes environmental awareness.

This event honors Bobby Wilson, who retired in 2022 after over 40 years with TWRA. Free Fishing Day and Week apply to public waters, TWRA lakes, and state park facilities. Some private pay lakes may still charge fees, so check with those operators for details.

In Williamson County, join the TWRA Family Fishing Event on Saturday, June 8th, from 7 am to 12 pm at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Fairview, Tennessee.  This free event encourages family participation in fishing and outdoor activities, with lunch provided and prizes available. Hosted by Hayden Cook and sponsored by the City of Fairview and the American Legion, it’s a perfect day to connect with nature. For more details, contact Hayden Cook at (629) 395-0435 or Hayden.Cook@tn.gov.

Statewide events are planned, thanks to TWRA and partners like Academy Sports + Outdoors. For a full list of events, visit the TWRA events page.
