New Art Classes at the Longview Recreation Center

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a variety of new arts and crafts classes for teens and adults in September at the Longview Recreation Center, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. All classes require pre-registration and space may be limited. PRACTICAL DRAWING & SKETCHING
Learn to draw with your artist’s brain. This course is for all skill levels with exercises in learning to see like an artist and draw what you see. Students will learn to draw in pencil as well as pen and ink and will be introduced to colored pencils, watercolor pencils and traditional watercolors. Students choose the medium and the subject matter. Practical Drawing will meet on Wednesdays, September 3rd – 24th from
6:30pm-8:30pm. This 4-week class is for teens and adults, and the total cost is $55.

BEGINNING MOSAICS
Learn to make a beautiful mosaic mirror. Students will learn the basics of mosaics, picking a base, adhesives, choosing and cutting glass and tile, design and grouting of a final project. Mosaics is a 4-week class, meeting on Thursday mornings, September 4th – 25th, from 9am-11am. The course fee is $60 plus a supply fee of $17. Instructor: Joy Mike. INTRODUCTION TO BEGINNER QUILTING
Even if you have never sewn before or sew very little, you can learn to quilt! This class will teach the basics of sewing machine use and fabrics, plus introduce quilting tools and quilting vocabulary while participants sew six different six-inch quilt blocks. The goal is to create a 30-inch square quilt, great for wall hanging, a baby carriage or lap quilt. The class will meet on Thursdays, September 4th through October 9th, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. BEGINNER SEWING-PAJAMA BOTTOMS
Learn the basics of sewing by constructing a pair of pajama bottoms in this beginner’s class. Participants will learn to create an elastic casing and hems while making these comfy pants. For teens (13 and older) and adults, basic sewing will meet on Saturday, September 6th, from 10am-1pm. The class fee is $25. Supply list provided at registration. BEGINNER SEWING- HOBO BAG
Learn to make a hobo bag or tote bag in the basic sewing class. No experience required, just a desire to learn to sew! Learn how to use a pattern, stitch accurate seams, create handles and drop in a lining. Participants will also gain new confidence in operating their sewing machines. Supply list provided upon registration. Class will meet Tuesday, September 16th and Tuesday, September 23rd, from 7pm-8:30pm. Cost of the 2-class course is $30. BEGINNER KNITTING
Interested in learning to knit? In this class, students will learn how to master the two basic stitches used in knitting projects, the knit and the purl. Then, students will construct a project (or projects) of their choice, including a scarf, small clutch purse, cell phone case and more. The instructor will provide a list of supplies to bring to class. Beginner Knitting will meet on Thursdays, September 11th – October 2nd, 10am-11:30am. All ages are welcome. The course fee is $50. JEWELRY MAKING
Learn the art of jewelry making in this fun and interesting class. Using beads, wire and jewelry pins, learn to make striking one-of-a-kind costume jewelry. Jewelry making is an easy fun craft that will be useful for years to come. Jewelry making will meet on Monday, September 15th, from 6pm-9pm. The class fee is $20, plus a supply fee of $8.
