Lunafest is a Success

LUNAFEST, the fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, held its premiere event at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in the First Tennessee Children’s Theatre on Sunday, March 9th, 2008. This event was sponsored by Luna Moms Club Nashville Powered by Stroller Strides.

This unique film festival highlighted women as leaders in society, illustrated through nine films by women filmmakers. The films ranged from animated shorts to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, body image, spirituality, relationships, cultural diversity, and breaking barriers.

All proceeds from the LUNAFEST premiere went to The Kaylen Foundation (www.kaylenfoundation.org) and the National Breast Cancer Fund (www.breastcancerfund.org). The Kaylen Foundation received 85% of the proceeds which was $3,179.64 and the Breast Cancer Fund received 15% of the proceeds and received a total of $506.41 The total amount raised from this event was $3,686.05
