Four Brentwood Academy seniors named National Merit Finalists

Brentwood Academy seniors Grant Decker, Michael Dennison, Thomas Koch and Abby Phillips were recently named National Merit finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

As Merit Scholar finalists, the students all have a chance to earn one of 7,400 scholarship awards, which together are worth more than $35 million. These students will be recognized at the Academic Awards program on April 29.

Six members of the class of 2016 also received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise:  Carl Ahlstrand, Olivia Cook, Noah Franks, Bailey Hand, Michael Renner and Sarah Beth Strickland. Commended Students are named on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that may vary from year to year. Commended scholars are often candidates for Special Scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

The National Merit scholarship winners will be chosen from a nationwide group of more than 15,000 finalists.
