Learn the Painting Process from Thumbnails to Sketches to Masterpieces

In this one-day acrylics painting workshop scheduled for February 24 from 10am to 3pm at the Art Center at Westhaven in Franklin, Tennessee, students will join artist Susan Elizabeth Jones to learn the three-step process of designing the end painting before pigment is ever applied to the canvas.

Together, we will examine the fundamentals of acrylic painting, with a strong focus on simplifying composition and emphasizing color relationships. This workshop will give you the skills to begin confidently painting impressionism-style art. We will begin using quick sketches to create design in the abstract, utilizing 3-value grayscale and color thumbnails and small studies to problem solve before starting any planned project. Students are encouraged to bring in their own landscape reference photographs to create their own original painting. This workshop is designed for artists relatively new to their creative journeys as well as those with intermediate skills. All will be welcome! Beginners will learn the steps on how to start painting landscapes independently, intermediate artists will learn to further advance their design and painting skills, and advanced artists will gain insight into enhancing their painting practice.  Everyone will enjoy a day with fellow creatives, practicing new skills and learning from each other.
