Federals in Franklin: A Town Under Occupation

Franklin local Walter Green talk. Visitors can take a tour at Carnton and Carter House to learn about the Battle which changed the City forever, but Walter Green’s exploration reaches back before the battle to explore life in Franklin before and after the battles reached the doorsteps of this fairly new City. 1861-1866. The Citizens of Franklin – just as citizens across the State and Country had been following national politics and elections for years. In the fall of 1860, Franklin had just turned 62 years old (established October 26, 1799), and President Abraham Lincoln was elected President. However, Abraham Lincoln did not even make the Tennessee ballot…which means the people of Franklin did not have Lincoln as an option. BOFT Community talks are back, but for Franklin’s 225th anniversary local writer, Walter Green researching how this young city was altered just 60-65 years after forming.
