Dinner with friends…

This year marks the Junior League of Nashville’s (JLN) third annual fundraiser “Dinner with Friends.” “Members host parties throughout Davidson and Williamson County to raise money but also awareness about the league and the agencies we support,” said Dinner with Friends Publicity Chair Silvia Castaneda Roddy. Junior League members will host small to elaborate dinners featuring recipes from the league’s cookbook “Notably Nashville.”

 

A couple of Williamson County members are joining up to host a fall family fest at Maple Farm in Fairview while other dinners will boast a local celebrity chef adding their flavor and twist to the recipes. The league hopes to raise $100,000 from the fundraiser to support their mission to “build a better community for women, children, and families in Nashville.” This year’s underwriters include: Fifth Third Bank, Publix Supermarkets, You’re Invited! gifts & paper, Cole Haan, and Sona MedSpa.

 

Primarily, the JLN focuses on issues in the areas of abuse and neglect, children and families at risk, educational disadvantage, health, voluntarism and quality of life. JLN has 22 community partner agencies where they are currently placing JLN volunteers, and an additional 70 charitable affiliates with whom they collaborate on an ongoing basis. While the dinners are invitation only, the general public can help support the JLN and all of its benefiting organizations by purchasing the “Notably Nashville” cookbook.

Silvia says it’s one of the best cookbooks because “these are delicious, easy southern recipes.” Some recipes of note are Minnie Pearl’s chess pie recipe, with her signature and Belle Meade eatery, Picnic Café’s famous cheese wafers. Silvia says she loves the cookbook because there are “not tons of ingredients, it’s easy and absolutely delicious.” She adds “you don’t have to be Julia Childs to cook deliciously.”
