Spring Hill Country Ham Festival

Spring Hill Country Ham Festival

Spring Hill is excited for the Third Annual Spring Hill Country Ham Festival, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Rippavilla Plantation, located on Highway 31 in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Co-Chair Chris DeBerry explains the event began three years ago in an effort to create a community day.

“We settled on a country ham theme to showcase and have fun with the dying art of ham curing and smoking,” she explains.

The festival will offer something for everyone, including live country and bluegrass music, ham curing and hog calling contests offering up to $1,000 in prize money, handmade arts and crafts with demonstrations, kids’ zone full of activities and games, and country ham available for purchase and tasting. The Spring Hill Arts Center will also be displaying local artwork on site and the Rippa Valley’s corn maze will be open for visitors for an additional charge.

DeBerry says she is especially excited about this year’s mascotWilbur,” a local celebrity pig, who was chosen for the new book cover of children’s classic Charlotte’s Web (which is scheduled for a re-release in October). Children will be able to visit, pet and take pictures with Wilbur from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. In addition, children can enjoy a petting zoo, pony rides, demonstrations by a Frontiersman, and inflatable games and other interactive activities. “The Singing Cowboy” will also be on-hand to demonstrate roping tricks and fun.

Proceeds of the event will benefit the “Imagination Library in Spring Hill,” which promotes literacy by providing monthly books to children under 5 years old.

Guests can expect great entertainment and good food in a down-home family atmosphere thanks to this year’s corporate sponsors John Maher Builders, Inc. (pictured below), Muray Regional Hospital, Publix Supermarkets, Tripp Country Hams, Community South (pictured below) and Mid-State Title & Escrow, Inc. Admittance is only $5 a carload, so pack up the family and bring your friends.
