YEAH! ANNOUNCES FREQOUT CAMP, JULY 6-10, 2020
Online program continues nonprofit’s 17-year focus on musical instruction, collaboration
NASHVILLE, TN – June 19, 2020 — FreqOut [frēkout], an online music-based camp for people ages 10-17, will be presented July 6-10, 2020, by local nonprofit organization Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities (YEAH!). This transformational virtual program, open to musicians of all skill levels, will focus on instrument instruction and life skill development in a supportive, collaborative environment that is fostered by talented mentors and counselors.
“We are excited to offer an online camp format this summer that will, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, allow teens and preteens in Middle Tennessee and beyond to gather, discuss current events, develop self-confidence, and express themselves,” said Sarah Bandy, executive director of YEAH!. “More than ever, this is a time to focus on building community between youth. We are eager to see familiar faces and welcome new ones in July, and build upon the innovative work we’ve done for 17 years with Southern Girls and Tennessee Teens Rock Camps.”
Daily activities will include a morning assembly, music lessons, lunchtime performances by guest artists, youth-led breakout discussions, and workshops on topics like zine-making, merchandising, and effects pedal construction. Camp will occur via the Webex video conferencing platform, chosen for its security and capacity for hosting groups.
Registration for FreqOut Virtual Music Camp—as well as its coordinating Ready to Rock Camp (July 6-10, 2020) for ages 5-10—is now open at yeahrocks.org. Scholarships are available for those unable to attend due to financial barriers. Campers without access to an instrument may borrow one for the weeklong session using no-contact checkout from YEAH!’s Gear Lending Library.
