Williamson County Animal Center Announces New Fees for Spay / Neuter Procedures

Lucy is an indoor cat who loves people and knows her boundaries.  At almost seven years old, she’s experienced enough to gently let you know when it is time for petting to cease and she keeps her distance from dogs.  When Lucy is comfortable though, her friendly side really shines.  She needs a family with patience, one who doesn’t mind too much that Lucy prefers to do her business just outside of the litterbox.  And, no, she’s not winking at you, Lucy has one eye.  Stop by WCAC to learn more about and meet Lucy and all the adoptable pets waiting on their family!

Cats that live in Williamson County and spend time outdoors remain no cost

For the first time in over five years, Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC) is increasing fees for sterilization surgeries of indoor cats and owned dogs. However, the shelter still offers free spay or neuter of any cat that spends any time outdoors in Williamson County. Information about scheduling appointments is on the animal center’s website.

WCAC Director, Ondrea Johnson explained that the changes are to offset rising costs of supplies needed to perform the procedures and she believes the fees are still extremely reasonable. “We do everything we can to remove barriers of access to care, especially for those with limited resources, and we held off on doing this as long as we could,” said Johnson. “It was a difficult decision because spay/neuter, homeless pet population control are so important to our mission and we don’t want to do anything that deters people.”

According to Johnson, it is estimated that a single cat can be responsible for as many as 400,000 cats in a seven-year period if it and all of the offspring continue to reproduce. Humane traps are available to rent for a $50 refundable deposit and WCAC has staff and volunteers to assist with capturing cats if needed.
