WCPR’s Rising Stars program to present The Sound of Music Youth Edition
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPR) and Rising Stars are excited to announce performance details for their Summer 2023 production The Sound of Music Youth Edition.
Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows Maria, an ebullient postulant who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, the von Trapp family must make a moral decision. In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place.
The Rising Stars will present four performances of The Sound of Music Youth Edition, including two matinee sing-along performances, at which audience members will be encouraged to sing along with the cast during musical numbers and will be provided a bag of small props to use while singing. The sing-along performances will also feature a costume contest for audience members. The cast of this production will include two ensembles, each performing one evening performance and one matinee performance. Performances will take place Friday, July 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Williamson County Performing Arts Center, 112 Everbright Ave., Franklin, TN. Tickets for the evening performances will be $12, and tickets for the sing-along matinee performances will be $16. Tickets will go on sale to the public on Monday, June 26, 2023 at www.wcpactn.com. For a limited time, early bird discounts will be available using code EarlyBird at checkout for evening performances and EarlyBirdSing for sing-along matinee performances. Early bird discounts will be available starting June 26, 2023 through July 11, 2023.
WCPR’s Rising Stars program is a training ground for young performers in first through eighth grade. Rising Stars produces at least two full-scale musical productions each year in an effort to give younger actors the skills and opportunity to be on stage in leading roles.
