About Deputy Sheriff Rebecca Coyle’s Award…
Deputy Coyle received the award for her efforts in saving the life of an individual who was moments away from going into insulin shock. Deputy Coyle had been to this individual’s home to serve a piece of civil process. The subject was not home. Deputy Coyle left her business card and the subject called her back later that evening after she had left the office.
The next day Deputy Coyle returned the phone call and did make contact with the subject. As Coyle talked to the the subject it sounded like he was intoxicated. During the conversation the subject hung up on her. She immediately called him back and he answered as if he had never hung up. This went on for approximately 30 minutes. Each time she called him back he sounded more and more intoxicated.
Deputy Coyle was finally able to determine the subject was sitting in the parking lot of a hardware store somewhere in Williamson County. Through previous contacts with this subject and his wife Deputy Coyle was able to contact this wife who adivsed which hardware store he traded at and that he was severly insulin dependant.
With the assistance of Detective Bill Ball who was on the phone with EMS personnel, Deputy Coyle was able to direct them to the subject by listening the the siren of the ambulance. According to EMS personnel the subject was moments from going into insulin shock when they arrived.
