WILLIAMSON COUNTY SCHOOLS WELL REPRESENTED AT STUDENT TELEVISION AWARDS
Williamson County Schools were well represented at this year’s Student Television Awards for Excellence given out by the Midsouth Regional Chapter of the Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). This is the same organization that produces the Emmy Awards. The awards were handed out April 3 at a ceremony at the Nashville Public Library.
Ravenwood High School came away a big winner, earning honorable mentions in three categories: Hubbard Family Award for Public Affairs; News; and Best Use of Music. Ravenwood also won two first place awards. The piece Don’t Litter won first place in the Hubbard Family Award for Public Affairs, and the piece La Pomme Est Mort won first place in the Technical Achievement category. Ravenwood juniors Logan Watson and James Thayer produced Don’t Litter, and sophomore Jessica Trevett produced La Pomme Est Mort. Ravenwood High School’s media production teacher is Sara Sweitzer.
Fairview High School earned an honorable mention in the Technical Achievement category for a piece produced by Ryan Flake. WC-TV earned an honorable mention in the Arts and Entertainment and Cultural Affairs category for the piece FFF (Fun, Fitness, and Food) Composite. Ravenwood students Tina Arafee, Michael Haywood, James Thayer, and Logan Watson produced this piece. Their advisor for the project was WC-TV’s Matt Balzer.
