What Campers Do Each Day
Campers ride every day, rotating between English and Western riding, and most ride three to four horses daily, giving them experience with different horses, tack, and riding styles. Mornings typically include instructor-led riding lessons or guided trail rides, along with time spent on ground safety and handling, grooming, tacking, and overall horse care.
Riding happens in a variety of settings, including a large sand arena, a round pen, grass fields, and shaded, tree-lined trails. Throughout the week, campers also ride in different scenarios, with structured lessons focusing on technique, hop-on–hop-off riding to try different horses and saddles, bareback riding to build balance, and beginner-friendly trail rides.
Afternoons shift to hands-on barn work and summer activities. Campers learn untacking (English and Western), hoof care, feeding routines, horse bathing, turnout, and basic barn chores, with water games mixed in on warmer days. Safety is reinforced throughout the week, with instruction on leading and handling horses from the ground and basic horse health. Horse-themed scavenger hunts and crafts are also part of the schedule.

The horses used for camp are experienced lesson horses, many of which have been part of the program for years and live on-site year-round. Creekside welcomes beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders, with lessons grouped by age and experience. Beginners receive extra support from junior counselors, while more advanced riders may test into canter or jumping lessons based on skill. Trail rides are beginner-friendly and guided.
