Harpeth True Value Closing After More Than 50 Years in Franklin
After more than five decades serving the Franklin community, Harpeth True Value is closing its doors. The longtime hardware store, located at 203 Downs Boulevard, has announced its final day of business as April 1st.
Since opening in the early 1970s, Harpeth True Value has been a steady presence in Franklin’s retail landscape. Known for its knowledgeable staff and personal service, the store became a go-to for everything from last-minute home repairs to weekend projects. For many residents, it offered something increasingly rare: a place where familiar faces were behind the counter and advice came with experience.
The business changed ownership in 2022, when longtime owners Mike and Shelley Moeller sold the store to Mike Outlaw. According to reports, the years that followed brought challenges, including shifts in customer habits and the loss of long-standing relationships with local builders. Those builder accounts made up a significant portion of the store’s business, particularly in the lumber department. Efforts to find a buyer for the business were unsuccessful, leading to the decision to close.
For many, Harpeth True Value was more than a place to shop. It was a gathering place, shaped by the people who worked there and the relationships built over the years. Some employees have been part of the store for decades, helping make it a trusted stop for customers across Franklin.
In the coming weeks, the store will begin winding down operations, with plans for clearance sales leading up to the final day on April 1st. The team has also invited longtime customers to stop by, share memories, and spend time in a space that has meant so much to the community.
After closing, the property is expected to be leased to a new tenant.
