GraceWorks receives a grant from the Predators
GraceWorks was also named as one of four featured charities this year for the foundation. Featured charities will be given visits by players and Predator celebrities as well as added exposure, awareness and visibility. Other featured charities for 2013 are Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, Nurses for Newborns and Bridges, formerly the League for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Checks were presented Monday (May 20) during the foundation’s annual grant distribution ceremony at Bridgestone Arena. GraceWorks’ grant was one of 113 charities receiving a total of $405,000 — a record for the foundation in 15 years of grant distribution. “Education is the key component to improving one’s quality of life, and we want to empower every child with the tools tolearn to the best of their ability. The Predators have enabled us to do that,” said GraceWorks Executive Director Tina Edwards.
This year, backpacks filled with school supplies will be given at the Big Backpack Giveaway July 27 at Liberty Elementary. Besides receiving backpacks, students and their families will enjoy an afternoon of food, music and prizes. Last year, 1200 backpacks were distributed. Now in its 10 organizations and churches to help students in Williamson County begin the school year with the supplies they need. The United Way Patricia Hart Society helps provide supplies with its Stuff the Bus campaign.
