Dressage show at Tractor Supply Co. Arena at Harlinsdale to feature equestrian athletes
A popular equestrian pursuit rooted in European history and the modern Olympic games will be on display at the Tractor Supply Co. Arena at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Central Tennessee Dressage Association (CTDA) will be hosting a schooling show, a sanctioned event held as part of the season’s circuit. The show is free and open to the public, and the concessions stand will be open.
“Dressage is a French term for training, and the purpose is to develop the horse’s natural athletic ability and willingness to be calm, supple and in coordination with his rider,” said CTDA President Jennifer Thompson. “Through the centuries, horses were used primarily by the military and had to perform at a very high level, so a system of training was developed. What is now an Olympic sport has been documented to the year 430 B.C. in Greece.”
