Bibb, Schroer honored at McGavock Dinner
Two community leaders were honored for their preservation work Friday night at the annual Battle of Franklin Trust McGavock Dinner.
The dinner, held each year at the Fleming Center on the grounds of Carnton Plantation, honors individuals who have contributed highly to the preservation of the battlefield properties.
This year’s McGavock Medal honorees were Marianne Schroer and Julian Bibb. BOFT Board member Tim Kearns started the festivities with a tribute to Schroer. Schroer was lauded for her “herculean task” of navigating three boards into one. Schorer, chairwoman of the current board, was instrumental in merging the BOFT, Carnton, and the Carter House boards into a single cohesive board that represents all the properties.
Kearns then asked board members to send one adjective to describe Schroer.
“Amazing, tenacious, dedicated, determined, tactful, committed, focused, visionary, sincere, genuine, heartfelt, and respected,” said Kearns. “These were just some of the words used to describe Marianne Schroer. She is a great leader of our organization. Her vision has helped grow these entities.”
