BATTLE OF FRANKLIN TRUST TO HOST NEXT LECTURE ON JULY 26
“The Past and Future of Our Civil War” to feature Hewitt Sawyers and Carroll Van West
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Battle of Franklin Trust will host its next lecture of the year on Thursday, July 26 featuring speakers Hewitt Sawyers and Dr. Carroll Van West. Titled “The Past and Future of Our Civil War,” the lecture will address the impact the Civil War has on Americans and will allow the speakers to discuss their perspectives on the past and the future of the war’s memory.
“Our lecture series is about educating our community while discussing topics pertaining to our mission,” said Eric A. Jacobson, CEO of The Battle of Franklin Trust. “This particular lecture will be a wide-ranging discussion of impacts the Civil War has had on our country, and how it will remain relevant in the future.”
Sawyers has served as pastor for West Harpeth Primitive Baptist Church in Williamson County since 1983. With a background in agriculture and gospel ministry, Sawyers is invested in serving the Franklin community. His involvements include positions with the Franklin Housing Authority, Habitat for Humanity, U.S. Community Credit Union, National Primitive Baptist Convention and the Cumberland District Association of Primitive Baptists.
Dr. West is both a professor and director of the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation. Additionally, he serves as the Tennessee State Historian and is director of The Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. He has written numerous books and articles on Tennessee and American history and speaks frequently about these topics.
“The Past and Future of Our Civil War” will take place at The Fleming Center at Carnton, located at 1345 Eastern Flank Circle. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
