Deadline for Nonprofits to Apply for Tennessee Community CARES Program Funding is August 15 

501(c)(3) Nonprofit Agencies Eligible to Apply 

August 14, 2020, NASHVILLE, Tenn.—As a grant administrator for the Tennessee Community CARES Program, United Way of Greater Nashville is encouraging all Tennessee nonprofit agencies to submit their application by the August 15 deadline.

The grant ensures that nonprofit organizations can respond to the impacts of COVID-19 by providing: 

• Aid to individuals impacted by wage loss, including rent, mortgage, utility and food assistance 
• Aid to organizations providing COVID-19 relief services, including prepared meals, mental health counseling, health care services and access to supplies 
• Support for businesses to assist with technical assistance, education, and expenses related to COVID-19. 

“If you are a nonprofit leader and are on the frontlines supporting our neighbors in need, this resource is for you,” said Brian Hassett, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Nashville. “We are carefully reviewing applications to ensure that this funding quickly and efficiently gets into the hands of nonprofits across Middle Tennessee.”

All 501(c)3 organizations in Tennessee are eligible to apply for grant funding. This is a reimbursement grant that will provide support to nonprofits that incurred expenses related to COVID since March 1 through November 15, 2020 that have not already been covered by another grant, donor or CARES funding. Applications are live at tncaresact.tn.gov/DHS and will close at 11:59 p.m. CST August 15, 2020. 

The State of Tennessee recently selected United Way as a grant administrator for the Tennessee Community CARES Program’s COVID-19 relief efforts. United Way will review applications and will decide allocation amounts and recipients. United Way is responsible for monitoring spending of approved programs. Additional organizations serving as grant administrators include: United Way of Greater Chattanooga; United Way of Greater Knoxville; United Way of the Mid-South; Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis; and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

In addition to state funding, United Way of Greater Nashville is serving as a grant administrator for $10,000,000 in local Metro Nashville CARES Act Funding. The grant ensures that nonprofit organizations can respond to the impacts of COVID-19 by providing rent, mortgage and utilities assistance to individuals impacted by wage loss.
