January at Southall Farm & Inn Earns Michelin Green Star for Sustainability
Michelin has officially brought its prestigious guide to the American South, and Franklin is already on the map! January, the signature restaurant at Southall Farm & Inn, has earned a Michelin Green Star for its exceptional commitment to sustainability.
The Green Star is Michelin’s highest honor for environmentally conscious dining, recognizing restaurants that combine culinary excellence with sustainable practices. At January, many ingredients come straight from Southall’s working farm, where chefs work hand in hand with the growers. When an ingredient can’t be cultivated onsite, it’s sourced as close to home as possible through trusted local partners who share the restaurant’s values. The culinary team also strives to operate as a zero-waste kitchen, with vegetable trimmings and scraps composted and returned to the soil, while any surplus or peak-season abundance is preserved through pickling, fermenting, drying, or canning. The result is a genuine seed-to-table experience that embodies the region’s agricultural heritage and commitment to sustainability.
Southall Farm & Inn opened in late 2022 and quickly became one of Middle Tennessee’s most distinctive destinations. The property features a luxury inn, spa, and cottages surrounded by rolling farmland and orchards. Guests can enjoy guided farm tours, wellness experiences, and dining that celebrates the bounty of the land, all just minutes from Franklin’s historic downtown.
The Michelin Guide’s inaugural American South ceremony also recognized several Nashville favorites: The Catbird Seat, Locust, and Bastion each received a Michelin Star, while The Hermitage Hotel earned two Michelin Keys for hospitality excellence.
With its Green Star distinction, January joins a select group of restaurants nationwide leading the way in sustainable fine dining, bringing well-deserved attention to Franklin’s culinary landscape.
