Walk Across Williamson

The fifth annual Walk Across Williamson physical activity program is gearing up to kick-off March 2nd. This year’s kick-off events are scheduled from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at various parks and schools throughout Williamson County including Woodland Middle School in Brentwood; Bowie Park in Fairview; Pinkerton Park in Franklin; and Evans Park in Spring Hill.

Walk Across Williamson is a collaborative effort between the Williamson County Health Council, Williamson County Schools and Franklin Special School District. Those who participate will record the number of minutes they are active throughout the month of March. Williamson County is 90 miles wide and, while participants are encouraged to set their own goals for Walk Across Williamson, 20 minutes of activity each day will be equal to one mile. Physical activity may include participation in gym workouts, walking or running, physical education, afterschool activities, or spending active time with the family.

According to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity (i.e. brisk walking) every week, and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days of the week for good health. Children and adolescents should engage in 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day.

The program will end with a celebration finale on Saturday, April 13th from 9 to 11 a.m. at Pinkerton Park in Franklin. Participating schools are eligible to earn mini-grants for their school. Adult and child participants will qualify for prizes and giveaways from local vendors.

Whether you are a student, parent, teacher or community member, we encourage you to dust off your sneakers and prepare to Walk Across Williamson.
