Eight hundred and sixty six pushups later, Matt McBryde, owner of Tennessee Kettlebell, congratulated the participants of the “Pushups for Charity” event held to benefit The Boot Campaign, which  supports wounded veterans. Last Saturday, supporters flocked to Tennessee Kettlebell to race the clock to see just how many pushups they could do in 90 seconds.  Top participants were Anna McFarland for the women’s group and Mose Ramieh for the men’s group.

”I got the email about the event and thought it sounded like fun,” commented ”I got the email about the event and thought it sounded like fun,” commented McFarland.  “I had no idea how many I could do, but it was for a great cause and I wanted to show my support.”

The Pushups for Charity Event was a national event held at gyms, studios and fitness facilities all over the country; Tennessee Kettlebell was the local event host.  Supporters from all over the Brentwood and Nashville area gathered at Tennessee Kettlebell on Armed Forces Day to participate in the fundraising program.  The money collected during the event will support The Boot Campaign, which in turn, works with various non-profits to fund programs designed to assist wounded veterans and their families.

“We raised nearly $6,000 for The Boot Campaign,” commented McBryde.  “Some participants received pledges for each pushup they completed while others gathered flat donations.  We had some really nice corporate sponsors including Reliant Bank, Benchmark Home Loans, Coca Cola, The Print Authority and Harley Davidson.”

Participants were broken down into groups of four and each had an official counter assigned to them.  While the clock ran for 90 seconds, the crowd cheered on the competing heat to help give them the extra “push” to get as many pushups in before time ran out.  Afterwards, participants were encouraged to stay for a complimentary kettlebell workout.

“It was a lot of fun and the energy was great,” said McBryde.  “I think people liked the competitive spirit it created and the fact that it was for such a worthwhile cause gave everyone a sense of purpose.  We will definitely host the event again next year.”
