Chip and Jill Cole is a couple that has always had an entrepreneur spirit. But just few years ago it may not have been readily apparent. Chip was a project manager for an environmental consulting firm and Jill was the assistant director at Willis Conference Center in Nashville, TN. On the surface their career goals seemed very dissimilar however they shared a dream to establish their own business.
The dream
Three years ago, this dream started to become a reality. As they watched the Franklin and Brentwood area grow and play host to an increasing number of events, the Coles realized the communities’ need for quality and affordable event rentals. Without hesitation, the couple seized the opportunity by making their first purchase of 300 white wooden chairs and 20 tables. From there, they continued to build their inventory and now “Southern Events” is established as the premier event rental service in Williamson County.
The Coles work in tandem to run Southern Events and contribute their unique skills to the business. Jill’s eight years of event planning experience have helped her handle the creative aspects and client relationships with ease. Chip compliments her by managing the logistics of the business, including managing the warehouse and coordinating pick-ups and deliveries.
Southern Events is often duly noted for their “exceptional service”. Southern Events is not just a company that delivers event rentals but they lead clients through the process of selecting rentals from beginning to end, to ensure their event is perfectly planned.
Success has come from Southern Event’s attention to detail. While Southern Events does not act as full-fledged event planners per-se, they are careful to make sure that their rentals fit seamlessly with the rest of the event. They are familiar with many of the venues in Franklin, Brentwood and Nashville and therefore have a very good idea of what will fit in different spaces. In addition, they have good relationships with various vendors and can make sound recommendations for clients. They strive to be in synch with other vendors because they know it makes it easier and less stressful for everyone.
Southern Events has simplified planning by inviting clients to their showroom. With true Southern hospitality at heart, Southern Events lets clients to try-on their event ideas in their showroom located at 218 3rd Avenue North in historic downtown Franklin. Here, in the “style library” clients have the opportunity to look at the latest wedding magazines and books to get ideas. Once they have an idea of what they want, clients can see their event come to life with the actual inventory in the interactive showroom.
You can tell that they care about their clients because they are willing to take time to help clients plan what products to rent. They strive for clients to get exactly what they need, even if that means encouraging them to rent fewer tables and chairs. One tool they use to help perfectly plan everything is by using a Party-CAD program. Southern Events uses this program to plan where everything will be placed and create floor plans of events.
As a local company, Southern Events is a proud representation of Franklin and Williamson County. It is a small, family-owned business with owners that are passionate about their clients and their community. The Coles support Franklin-based businesses and understand the perseverance and dedication it takes to run a small company.
Southern Events should be recognized for their service to the community. They donate a lot of their time and energy to support local nonprofit groups. In-kind gifts to these nonprofits resonates what it means to be a community. Southern Events has strong ties with the Heritage Foundation and their preservation work. They have also been a part of many other events including the Bridges Gala, Three Blind Wines, Turning the Tables and other fundraisers for “Save the Franklin Theater”.
Southern Events goes the extra mile for their clients’ events and reach out to help the community. But you can’t forget that they supply some really fabulous rentals. In addition to tables and chairs their inventory now includes glassware, china, flatware, service pieces, cake stands and catering equipment. They can also assist you with booking tents, HVAC, flooring and lighting. Clients can choose from their plethora of linens or can order customized linens. Their inventory also includes decorative items such as lovely candelabras, topiaries, lanterns, tea candle votives, a wrought iron arch and more. The most recent addition to the inventory is a restroom trailer, perfect for outdoor or tented events.
The inventory is made up of high-quality products that are taken care of and in good condition. They hand pick unique inventory as well as classics like pewter and silver serving pieces. Southern Events’ inventory keeps up with the times with new collections such as specialty lines of trendy dishware. But of course, they also have everything in inventory to put on a traditional southern event.

And with Music City right up the road, Southern Events has had their chance to put on events for local musical talents. Southern Events provided rentals for Sarah Evans wedding and for a host of record release parties including Dierks Bentley and Carrie Underwood.

If you are picking up an order please do so at our warehouse location. A time for pickup should be scheduled with your sales representative before your arrival.
