Seniors Visit Historic Rock Castle

Williamson County Parks and Recreation’s Senior Division travels to scenic Hendersonville for a tour of the 1780’s era Historic Rock Castle on Thursday, April 10th. Located near Old Hickory Lake, this multi level, limestone dwelling was originally raised from the land by North Carolina Surveyor, Daniel Smith. Smith received the 3,140 acre plantation as payment for surveying land boundaries in the Middle Tennessee area. Rock Castle, an architectural blend of the Georgian and Federal periods, now sits on 18 acres of land that include a smokehouse and cemetery. Those on the tour will also see several original Smith pieces including desks and chests; plus, the collection includes the family Bible, private letters and a library collection of over 200 books.  After the tour, participants will head to Demo’s for lunch where they can choose from a variety of tasty entrees including steak, chicken, pasta and sandwiches, Don’t miss this fantastic trip!
 
The cost is $11.00 per person with lunch as a Dutch treat. Check-in time the day of the trip begins at 8:15 a.m. with an estimated return time of 1:30 p.m. All transportation is provided by motor coach and will leave from the Franklin Recreation Complex located at 1120 Hillsboro Rd., Franklin. Space is limited!
 
To register, call 790-5719, ext. 10 beginning at 9:00 a.m. on or after the first registration date. You must speak with a receptionist in order to make a reservation. You may also register in person. Williamson County residents may register between March 20th and April 8th. Non-residents are welcome to register between March 26th and April 8th.
 
Reservations must be paid within 5 days of registration in order to be held. Payment may be received by mail, over the phone or in person (credit card purchases must be over $20.00 and will include a small processing fee) and are non-refundable after the final registration date; unless, the seat is filled from the waiting list. Participants may register up to 1 additional person for each trip.
