Regional Presidential Award

Franklin Special School District Director of Schools, Dr. David Snowden, received the 2008 Presidential Award from the Southern District of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). The award was presented by AAHPERD Southern District President, Dr. Cam Kerst-Davis, at the Alliance’s annual conference, held in Fort Worth, Texas, in April.

The award was presented to the FSSD “for its years of dedication to and excellence in supporting quality daily elementary physical education,” according to the invitation sent to Dr. Snowden by Dr. Kerst-Davis.  She also recognizes the district’s support of its physical education staff to serve in professional leadership roles at the state, district and national levels.
According to its web site, the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) is the largest organization of professionals supporting and assisting those involved in physical education, leisure, fitness, dance, health promotion, and education and all specialties related to achieving a healthy lifestyle.

AAHPERD is an alliance of five national associations and six district associations and is designed to provide members with a comprehensive and coordinated array of resources, support, and programs to help practitioners improve their skills and so further the health and well-being of the American public. Today AAHPERD serves 25,000 members.
