Ongoing Classes for Teens and Adults

You may also receive department information by “liking” us on Facebook. Williamson County Parks and Recreation is a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone may register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

GUITAR LESSONS
Teens and adults can learn guitar or bass guitar in this series of private lessons. Instructor John D’Amato has over 25 years as a teacher and performer. Lessons focus on improving technique, reading musical notation, improvisation and tablature. A four-week Monday session will be offered March 3-24 in 30-minute or one-hour sessions between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. ($88). Classes are held at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. To register, call (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010 and reserve a 30-minute time slot.

BASIC MAKEUP AND SKIN CARE TECHNIQUES
Get your makeup done for a special girls night out while learning current trends and techniques from celebrity makeup artist Shelly Nicole.  The class will be Tuesday, March 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or Saturday, March  22 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. WRITING FOR STAGE SCREEN AND LITERATURE
Join published journalist (Creative Screenwriting, Backstory), screenwriter, and author Sean Kennelly as he teaches you how to create engaging characters and build entertaining stories for any medium (film, tv, stage and/or literature). Come with your ideas and leave with a roadmap to construct your own original story! Course meets Mondays, March 24-April 28 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and covers theme, character, story structure, description, and dialogue. Course instructor recommends purchasing “Save the Cat!” by Blake Snyder as it will be referenced extensively in class. Course is $60, plus a supply fee of $12 (for reading selections), payable to instructor, Sean Kennelly. WESTERN LINE DANCING
Whether you can “boot-scoot” with the best of them or you want to test your “two left feet” out on the dance floor for the first time, you will love participating in our Western Line Dancing Class. You’ll have a great time and feel the benefits of a cardio workout. Come learn the latest and hottest new line dances. Line dancing meets Tuesdays, March 4-25 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The course is $30 per person or $55 a couple, (must be family members). PIANO & VOICE LESSONS
Private weekly piano or voice lessons for beginning or intermediate students offered by James Weinberg at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.  Learn note reading skills, music theory and artistic technique using a variety of styles. Half-hour lessons are offered on Fridays, March 7-28 from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The four-week session is $100, plus a supply fee payable to the instructor for books as needed.  For more information, visit www.jamesmusicstudio.com. HOW TO GET THOUSANDS
Learn the secrets of the college financial aid system, how to increase eligibility for financial aid, how to pick colleges with the best aid packages and more. Class will cover scholarships, grants and low interest loans. This class is for adults and meets on Tuesday, March 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. The class is free, but you must register by calling the Genesis Group at (615) 370-8015.

BEGINNING BALLROOM DANCING
Learn the basics of dancing with a partner in this class. Feel more confident about getting on the dance floor.  No experience is necessary to participate. Please wear comfortable shoes (no tennis shoes) and sign up with a partner. Beginning Ballroom dancing will meet Tuesday, March 18 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The class is $15 per couple, and will be held at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. For adults.
