Franklin Special School District Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden has approved the following two administrative appointments as the traditional calendar school year is set to begin.

Proven FSSD leader appointed as Franklin Elementary principal
Dr. David Esslinger has been appointed as principal at Franklin Elementary School. Although he will be meeting most students for the first time on August 5th at registration, he has been working with Franklin Elementary assistant principal Cheryl Robey since the beginning of July.

“We are excited for the opportunity to work with Dr. Esslinger in his new role of principal at Franklin Elementary,” Dr. Snowden said. “He has been a valued member of the administrative team at Moore for the past eleven years while also providing leadership in many district endeavors.”

"I am honored to be selected for the position and I am very excited about getting started on my first year at Franklin Elementary," Dr. Esslinger said.  "As I get to know the faculty members, I am so impressed with the genuine love this faculty has for its students.  It is so obvious that the children are number one in the eyes of each staff member and they will do whatever it takes to meet the needs of every child.  That makes Franklin Elementary a very exciting place to be."

Among Dr. Esslinger’s professional accomplishments, he has facilitated Moore’s School Improvement Planning Process of Moore Elementary for four years; he has served as Chairman of the FSSD Personnel Hearing Authority; he co-chaired the FSSD Technology Task Force, which made recommendations to the Board of Education on a comprehensive technology plan; and he chaired the technology committee of Moore Elementary, which created and implemented the school’s technology plan.

Dr. Esslinger came to the FSSD in 1997 as assistant principal at Moore Elementary.  Prior to that he spent 8 years in Shelbyville, where he taught science and served as athletic director and basketball coach.

Along with his teaching and administrative experience, Dr. Esslinger holds a Doctor of Leadership and Educational Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University, a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Middle Tennessee State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Teaching from David Lipscomb University.

Moore Elementary Welcomes New Assistant Principal
With the departure of Dr. Esslinger to Franklin Elementary, Moore Elementary Principal Tricia Green enlisted the full support of a school interview team to identify the best candidate for the position.  Ms. Lisa Burgin was ultimately chosen and will join Mrs. Green as assistant principal as Moore Elementary opens for the 2008-2009 school year.

“Ms. Burgin brings significant teaching and administrative experience to Moore Elementary,” Dr. Snowden said. “We believe she will be a great part of the team at Moore and a valuable addition to the school district.”

"The interview team and I were very impressed with Lisa’s warm personality, her collaborative style, her love of students, and her administrative experience," Mrs. Green said.

Ms. Burgin has comes to the FSSD with five years of administrative experience as well as 13 years of teaching experience. Her latest post was at Westwood Elementary School in Fairview, where she has been a second-grade teacher for the past three years. While at Westwood, she served on many school committees and chaired the School Improvement Plan Committee.

Ms. Burgin received her administrative experience in Texas, where she lived until she moved to Williamson County three years ago. She worked in the McKinney Independent School System for 10 years. Her last four years in McKinney were spent were spent as principal of an elementary school.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Southwest Texas State University, and a Master of Educational Administration from Texas Woman’s University.                  

"With her extensive knowledge of technology, her experience working with bilingual students, and her proven ability to develop a meaningful school improvement plan, she will be a valuable member of the Moore faculty," Mrs. Green said.

Ms. Burgin’s first day at Moore Elementary will be Friday, July 25.
