Franklin Fire Department
On Monday, February 4th, Franklin Fire Station #6, located at 1061 Cool Springs Blvd, TN, was officially placed in service. The three-bay, 11,175 square foot station is located in the Avalon development and will serve the area east of I-65 and north of Murfreesboro Rd. It will house eight firefighters per shift, Engine 6 and Ladder 6, and future plans include a rescue truck. In addition, it includes offices for two fire inspectors and the city’s medical officer.
Land for the new station, 1.8 acres, was donated by the developers of Avalon, a residential and commercial development located in Cool Springs. Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek commented,
“Station 6 will enhance our response times and will considerably aid in our goal to protect lives and property from fires, medical emergencies, and other disasters.”
Station 6 was designed by Hart-Freeland-Roberts and Tri-Star Construction was the general contractor of this $2.5 million dollar capital project. A 2005 Insurance Services Office evaluation of the Fire Department determined that an additional station was needed to service the area.
An open house for the public to tour the facility will be scheduled for this spring. The City plans to break ground this year on Fire Station 7 in the Goose Creek area. Additionally, plans are underway for Fire Station 8 in Westhaven.
