The Forgotten Caregiver

THE FORGOTTEN CAREGIVER
with Robyn Arab, Certified Care Manager

In 2022, approximately 367,000 Tennesseans served as dementia caregivers, representing 496 million hours of unpaid care, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Robyn Arab will present “The Forgotten Caregiver,” a program focusing on the needs of these caregivers, at the Williamson County Public Library. This is the fourth program in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia series, a collaboration between the Library and the Alzheimer’s Association Tennessee Chapter, and will be held on Tuesday, July 25, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Library’s Meeting Room.

Robyn Arab, Social Worker, Certified Care Manager, Community Facilitator, and certified Aging Life Care Association member, will focus on self-care for the caregiver. Caregiving is one of the most challenging yet most loving positions one can hold, and it can also be all-consuming with little thought of caring for yourself. Ms. Arab will use Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to help us better understand how we can care for the caregiver. What are we missing, and how can we change within ourselves to become healthier and more empowered caregivers?

Robyn Arab has spent over 30 years helping families navigate the complicated maze of aging, senior health care, and long-term planning through the resources in the community. As the primary Care Manager at the Harpeth Hills Church of Christ’s Resource Center on Aging, she has helped establish the center as a community leader in senior resources and advocacy. With her guidance, it has become the model for other programs throughout Nashville. Ms. Arab also plays a pivotal role in the center’s partnership with TriStar Parthenon Pavilion’s Wellness 66 educational seminars, which have helped educate thousands of participants on aging issues. She is a participant in many local organizations that advocate for the needs of older adults in the community. She co-developed Daughters on Fire podcasts and blogs to share knowledge with those caring for family members. She created a consulting business, Your Caregiver Journey, based on its success. Ms. Arab listens to caregivers and their families, then helps them prepare for their journey. Her passion is education to those who don’t know where to get the answers.

The Alzheimer’s and Dementia programs are on the fourth Tuesday of each month, April through September, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Williamson County Public Library in the Meeting Room on the first floor. All Library programs are free and open to the public. Registration is requested at bit.ly/AlzProgram4 to ensure a seat.
