Brentwood Firefighters Help Accept Donation from Tennessee Titans for Gatlinburg
From the City of Brentwood…
“At Sunday’s Tennessee Titans game against the Denver Broncos, nine members of the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department stood on the field to accept a $144,270 check from the Tennessee Titans to Dolly Parton’s “My People Fund.” The substantial donation will help those families impacted by the recent fires in Gatlinburg. All nine of the firefighters on the field were part of the deployment to Gatlinburg or East Tennessee. The team also were present during the singing of the national anthem at Sunday’s game.
achary Scheitel spent nearly a week in Gatlinburg and said, “We have inherently dangerous jobs but this deployment changed the dynamic. We were no longer dealing with a dangerous call in Brentwood, we were existing in an environment that was actively on fire. We had traded our normal medical calls, clean fire engines, and city streets for a burning forest fire where everything was very unforgiving. No hot coffee or friendly Brentwood faces, just a whole burning mountain that required your attention at every moment to keep your crew and yourself safe. It was hard, hot, dirty, and dangerous, but a good experience. We were able to help our fellow Tennesseans and make a real difference,” Scheitel said.
