William Edge Salon and Spa will align with the hospital to provide services to patients and caregivers of children receiving treatment, along with a plan for on-going fundraising on behalf of the hospital. “We are mission-driven organization,” says William Edge, “our mantra ‘Beauty Matters’ extends not only to the salon/spa experience and our technical craft, but also to the ways in which we reach our communities and those in need.” The William Edge Nashville pledge that ‘Every Service Serves a Child’ signifies that for each service performed in the Nashville and Spring Hill locations, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. The Launch Party will take place on November 9, 2012 at William Edge Salon and Spa, starting with a 10:00am ribbon cutting ceremony attended by members of the chamber of commerce and followed by a launch party to commemorate the partnership with the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, and an evening of cocktails, entertainment by local musicians, a live photo shoot, and a chance to donate personally to the efforts. All salon and spa services scheduled between 5:00pm and 10:00pm with receive 20% off the service booked. There will be drawings all day on the hour, with the final drawing for the opportunity for a series of hair services throughout the course of a year, and a drawing for a series of complimentary spa services for a year. The main focus of the morning will be on 18-year-old Katie Roy. Katie was diagnosed at age 3 with a rare metabolic disorder called cystinosis, a condition that also claimed the lives of her mother’s 3 siblings in the 1960s. The disorder causes crystals of cystine, an amino acid, to build up in the organs and most commonly starts by attacking the kidneys. Eventually, cells are damaged and organs start shutting down. Katie has been receiving treatment for cyctinosis at Monroe Carell since the mid-1990s, when the facility was known as Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Katie will be receiving hair and makeup provided by the William Edge team before singing and playing her guitar for a sidewalk audience. She hopes to one day meet her idol, Taylor Swift. She will also be speaking about her experience and providing testimonial to working with the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. William Edge Salon and Spa will be treating Katie’s mother, Jenni Kloete, whom gave Katie one of her kidneys, to a day of spa services, while offering Katie a chance to explore hair and makeup.
