Attention June Bugs!
The schedule of classes for June is listed below! It’s going to be a great time in the garden with guest teachers and fun activties. Here’s the details and schedule of classes in the garden:
June 5th: Diggin’ the Dirt – It’s not just dusty old dirt in the garden. The soil in the garden is almost magic! Find out why in the Diggin’ the Dirt class!
June 6th: Doing the Rain Thing – Water is an extremely important part of making your garden grow. We’ll install a rain gauge in this class and learn more about why water is so important to make the garden grow.
June 12th: That’s a lot of Food, Dude – How much food can be grown in your garden? And how many people could you feed with that food? Learn how small gardens can make a big difference in battling hunger across the country.
June 13th: My Plate, Your Plate – What are you eating? How do you know that the food on your plate is good food for you? Find out in this class. We’ll be taste testing veggies from the garden too!
June 19th: Gonna Get Your Goat – Farmers grow more than veggies and fruits. Farmers raise animals too that provide good food for you. A special guest from Noble Springs Dairy Farm will be at this class with some special food treats for you to try!
June 20th: Blue is a Berry Good Color – One of our favorite berry farmers at the Franklin Farmers Market will teach this class about wonderful, healthy, sweet blueberries and how to take care of the blueberry bushes in your garden.
June 26th: Garden Detectives – It’s a real mystery… Is it a fruit? Or is it a vegetable? Or could it be both? Solve the mysteries of the garden in this class.
June 27th: What’s Cooking? – A special organic cooking expert will teach you (and your parents) some delicious, easy ways to enjoy what you are growing in the garden!

Please note the time change for June classes:
The classes that are scheduled on Tuesdays will now take place at 11am. Wednesday classes are scheduled to take place at 10am.
While all children are invited to attend, the classes are designed primarily for kids ages 5 -11 years old. Classes are free but you must register to attend.
Classes are subject to change due to weather and scheduling conflicts. Stay up to date on the garden by subscribing to the market’s farm fresh news or the Beanstalks newsletters. Class info and garden news are also posted on the market’s website.
The Growing Kids Educational Garden was created last year by the Franklin Farmers Market to give kids an edible education about where their food comes from and the eco-friendly role that gardens can play in the environment. Thanks to the City of Franklin Parks, we planted the garden in the Park at Harlinsdale Farm. With such lessons as to why squiggly worms are important or what makes dirt good for growing, kids in the garden classes found out first hand about the role that nature plays in getting food on the dinner table.
It’s time now to start growing again. Your kids can find out such things as why toads are garden heroes; what it takes to get a gigantic sunflower from a little seed or how good tomatoes just picked can taste. There’s no charge for the classes, thanks in part to donations from garden sponsors such as Whole Foods Market and Tractor Supply Company.
