New & Returning Adult Art Classes in Franklin

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department announces the return of dichroic glass jewelry, knitting and crocheting, as well as new classes in mosaics and altered art at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. KNITTING
In this beginning to intermediate class, learn to knit or improve your skills with instructor Francie Owens. Open to students of all levels. Learn the basics of knitting and purling, learn to read a pattern and begin a simple project or knit a sweater, socks, a Christmas stocking and more. Students are welcome to take this class as many times as they wish. Knitting will meet on Thursdays, September 4th – 25th, from 9:30am-11:30am. Cost: $12 per class. Please register for each class. BEGINNING MOSAICS
Learn to make a beautiful mosaic mirror. Each student will learn the basics of mosaics, picking a base, adhesives, choosing and cutting glass and tile, design and grouting of the final project. Choose from simple beginner patterns or design your own. Glass provided in several colors, plus students may bring their own mosaic pieces. The 4-week mosaic course is $60 plus a supply fee of $17. Mosaics will meet on Thursdays, September 4th – 25th, from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. To register, call 790-5719, ext. 10.
 
CROCHET BASICS
Learn the basics of crochet and some new stitches in this fun class. Bring your own pattern, yarn and hook or choose from basket weave, shell, star or broomstick lace stitches. All stitches can be used to create wonderful scarves, tops and more! Class will meet on Wednesdays, September 10th – 24th, from 9:30am-10:30am. The 3-week course is $25. NATURE’S CANVAS MINIATURE COLLAGE-ALTERED ART
Altered art is a fast growing craft trend where objects are used as a creative starting point for a unique work of art. Both a tutorial on collage skills and a nature study, this altered art class will teach collage design, composition, layering and embellishment techniques. Students will work with paint, paper, images and found objects. For beginning and experienced crafters and artists, age 13 and older. Class will be offered Tuesday, September 16th OR September 30th, from 10am-noon. Class fee is $15 (second family member $10), plus a supply fee of $5. FUSED DICHROIC GLASS JEWELRY 101-BEGINNERS
Learn the basics of glass fusing while creating glass jewelry in this adult class. The glass fusing process will be demystified as participants learn the special techniques necessary for this craft. Also, students will learn to operate small, tabletop glass kilns. No experience is necessary. Beginning dichroic glass will meet on Tuesdays, September 23rd – October 14th, from 6pm-8pm. FUSED DICHROIC GLASS JEWELRY 102-INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
Students will build upon their fusing skills, learn to create additional depth in multi-layered pieces and to fuse a larger, more complex sculptural work. Fused bead making will also be introduced.  Advanced dichroic glass will meet on Tuesdays, September 23rd – October 14th, from 6pm-8pm.
