Tim Shaw’s Fight Against ALS
Shaw announced his retirement from the NFL in March 2014 after a six-year professional football career. Just five months later, he revealed he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was only 30 years old.
ALS is a progressive neurological disease that affects the connection between the brain and muscles. Over time, it impacts a person’s ability to walk, speak, eat, and breathe. While there is currently no cure, awareness campaigns and research efforts continue to advance understanding of the disease.
Despite facing enormous challenges, Shaw has remained active within the Titans organization. He continues to serve as a source of motivation for players, coaches, and fans throughout Tennessee. His positive outlook and determination have made him one of the state’s most respected advocates for ALS awareness.
TShaw Strong Continues the Mission
Following his diagnosis, Shaw launched TShaw Strong, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by ALS. The organization works to raise awareness, fund research, and provide resources for those navigating the disease. TShaw Strong promotes a message of strength, resilience, and hope.
Through fundraising efforts and community outreach, the organization continues to make an impact both in Tennessee and across the country. Those interested in supporting the mission can learn more through TShaw Strong.
Lou Gehrig Day was established by Major League Baseball in 2021 to honor the legacy of legendary New York Yankees first baseman Lou Gehrig, who died from ALS on June 2, 1941. The annual observance also raises awareness for those currently living with the disease.
This year’s show of support for Tim Shaw served as a powerful reminder that his influence extends far beyond the football field. For sports fans throughout Franklin, Williamson County, and Tennessee, Shaw’s story continues to represent perseverance, courage, and the importance of community support in the fight against ALS.
