Free Community CPR & Public Safety Day Coming to The Factory at Franklin

The Franklin Fire Department, The Factory at Franklin, and several public safety partners will host a free Community CPR & Public Safety Day on Wednesday, June 3, from 10 am to 2 pm. at The Factory at Franklin.

The event is designed to help community members learn lifesaving skills they can use before first responders arrive. Attendees can stop by hands-on practice stations to learn and practice CPR and AED use for adults, children, and infants. The event will also include information on how to respond to choking, bleeding, and overdose emergencies, including how to administer naloxone.

The Community CPR & Public Safety Day follows a December incident at The Factory at Franklin, where 65-year-old Wayne Young collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest after completing a delivery. Bystanders called 911, started CPR, located an AED, and delivered a shock before first responders arrived. Their quick response helped save his life.

Franklin’s Chain of Survival relies on bystanders, 911 telecommunicators, public access AEDs, and rapid response from Franklin Fire, Williamson Health EMS, Franklin Police, and other emergency partners. The June 3rd event gives residents an opportunity to learn more about that process and feel more prepared to respond in an emergency.

Attendees may also register for a free, one-hour, non-certification CPR class in the Heritage Room. Adult CPR classes will be offered at 10 am and noon, while infant CPR classes will be offered at 11 am and 1 pm Participants must register separately for each class session

Additional activities will include a Public Safety Touch-A-Truck, car seat checks, door prizes, safety information, and giveaways. Participating agencies include the Franklin Fire and Police Departments, Williamson Health EMS, Williamson County Health Department, Williamson County Emergency Communications, Williamson County Emergency Management, Atmos Energy, and Mix 92.9.
