The Fairies inhabit a magical, hand-crafted corner of the park, while the Peers carry the unshakable confidence of the powerful. At its heart, Iolanthe satirizes people who take themselves a bit too seriously. The plot follows a half-mortal shepherd whose impossible love exposes a long-kept secret, forcing the Queen of the Fairies to intervene directly in British Parliament. Sullivan’s iconic melodies are retained but feature a vibrant, 21st-century orchestration. Gilbert & Sullivan’s biting and comedic satire of status and self-importance has never felt more relevant.
