Animal Center Celebrates 17th Annual Mars Global Adoption Weekend

Mars and its family of pet care brands to cover cat and dog adoption fees

Beginning Friday, October 3 and through Tuesday, October 7, Mars is covering adoption fees for approved applicants to welcome into their home a cat or dog from Williamson County Animal Center (WCAC). For the second year in a row, Mars Global Adoption Weekend is activating globally. Across more than 20 countries, Mars will bring people and pets together through volunteerism, adoption and awareness-driven activities. Shelters in 20 cities across the U.S., including WCAC, are participating to “reinforce Mars’ commitment to end pet homelessness and champion a more pet-friendly society.”

Covered adoptions are courtesy of Mars, Adopt A Pet Shelter Plus and/or PEDIGREE Foundation. Each adopted pet will go home with a welcome kit featuring IAMS, PEDIGREE, TEMPTATIONS and GREENIES food and treats, three months of Calm membership, a WISDOM PANEL DNA kit voucher, Banfield Pet Hospital veterinary coupons, and waste bag holders.

Adoption weekend this year features two special events for WCAC. On Sunday, October 5 – a day the shelter typically does not process adoptions – the public is welcome to the animal center’s play yards for a Playgroup Rockstar event. From 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Dogs Playing for Life founder, Aimee Sadler will lead an outdoor playgroup that gives interested adopters the opportunity to see adoptable dogs romp and play together. The main building is closed and dog adoptions only during this event.

Dale a dog up for adoption in Franklin at WCAC.

Almost five-years old, Dale loves every opportunity to explore and meeting new people. He is fantastic at fetch and loves to run around the play yard. Dale is working to improve his leash skills, already knows several basic commands and is quick to learn new tricks.  He can be selective about four-legged friends so a meet and greet with a resident pooch is required.  Without a doubt he is a fun, loyal companion.  He is also Heartworm positive and needs a family willing to provide the life-long medical care needed.  Visit Dale and all of the adorable adoptables at WCAC!

On Tuesday, October 7, WCAC will take part in the third annual Pup Cup adoption event in the Publix Plaza at Geodis Park from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. This free event presented by Mars and supported by the PEDIGREE Foundation features a puppy soccer match, adoptable dogs, and Nashville SC player appearances.

All cats and dogs adopted from WCAC are spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. If a pet is too young to have received its first rabies vaccination at the time of adoption, the family can bring it back to the shelter at the appropriate age to receive the vaccination at no cost.

WCAC is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.; Saturday 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.; and closed Sundays. Hours may vary due to holidays or special events. The center is located at 1006 Grigsby Hayes Court in Franklin.
