United Community Foundation opens 2025 Middle Tennessee scholarship applications

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (March 6, 2025) — Leading fiber broadband provider United Communications has announced that the application period for its 2025 United Community Foundation Scholarship Program is open now through March 28, 2025. Applications can be completed and submitted online

The scholarship program is open to all high school seniors graduating at the end of the 2024-25 academic year and residing in Bedford, Franklin, Marshall, Maury, Rutherford, Williamson, and Wilson counties.

Previously, scholarship recipients received $1,000 per year for up to four years to help pay for college tuition and vocational training opportunities. Starting in 2025, six individual graduates will be awarded $2,000 per year for up to four years—an $8,000 total investment toward each recipient’s academic and career goals.

Over the past 15 years, the United Community Foundation has awarded $55,000 in merit-based scholarships to 26 students in Middle Tennessee. Scholarship recipients are chosen by a panel of judges affiliated with the United Community Foundation based on the following criteria:

  • Grade point average

  • Honors and awards

  • Leadership positions

  • Volunteer activities

  • A 300-500 word essay

“The United Community Foundation scholarship program isn’t just about helping individual students—it’s about investing in the future of our entire community,” said Todd Brown, the director of people and culture at United Communications. “We’re proud to support students in Middle Tennessee as they take the next step in their education.”

The foundation’s annual scholarship was created in 2010 to support graduating high school students who were directly related to employees at United Communications. The program quickly expanded to provide opportunities to other deserving applicants within the company’s service area.

Recipients of the 2024 United Community Foundation scholarship are currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga; Virginia Tech; Auburn University; and the University of Mississippi.

Students and their family members can direct any questions about the scholarship program or application process to their high school counseling departments.
