Our community is facing an early literacy crisis. Three out of four of Greater Nashville’s third graders are not reading on grade level. In Williamson County, 32 percent of students are not on track with their grade level. Children who have not developed basic literacy skills by the time they enter kindergarten are three to four times more likely to drop out in later years. This year’s Hart to Heart Luncheon will dive into our work to strengthen early literacy—and how the community can help—by exploring three United Way programs: Raise Your Hand and Imagination Library of Middle Tennessee.
About United Way of Greater Nashville
At United Way, we unite the community and mobilize resources so that every child, individual and family thrives. Together, we are working to create a community where every child receives a quality education, no one lives in poverty or poor health, and the most basic needs of our families are met. We are uniquely positioned to lead this fight by bringing individuals, businesses, nonprofits and government to the table to have the tough conversations, mobilize the resources and make the smart investments that will create lasting solutions for our region’s most pressing issues.
