Art Programs for Teens and Adults at WCPR Franklin Recreation Facilities

The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department (WCPR) hosts an expansive offering of art programs for teens and adults at our Franklin recreation facilities to commemorate the season and celebrate the upcoming holidays.

Fun with Acrylic Painting – October

Children and adults, ages 10 and up, join professional artist and educator, Kris Salva as she guides all levels of artists through a fun, make-and-take acrylic painting on canvas project! No prior experience or supplies are necessary. Come alone or bring a friend or family member and join in the fun on Wednesday, October 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is $20 per person and includes all materials.

Open Studio Draw and Paint

Join Instructor, Hannah Maxwell Rowell and get expert tips, collaboration and support in whatever style of drawing or painting you want to explore in this open studio format. Studio sessions are held on Fridays, October 16, 23 and 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. * Due to social distancing requirements; students must register in advance to guarantee their space for each week. Cost is $20 per person/ per session. Bring your own supplies and project, or the instructor will provide some for your first visit.

 Botanical Watercolor Workshop – Sunflower

Back by popular demand! Teens and adults ages 13 and up, join local artist, Hannah Maxwell Rowell for this one-day workshop as she introduces all levels of students to botanical drawing and painting techniques in watercolor and mixed media to create a lovely work of art each month to proudly display. This program will be offered at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road, on Sunday, November 1 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $40 per participant; plus a $15 supply fee, or individuals may bring their own supplies from a list provided.

Mixed Media Workshop: Thanksgiving Blessings

Showcase your favorite Thanksgiving sentiment in a “Folk Art Floral” style frame of fall colors and images in this 4-hour mixed media on canvas workshop with instructor Suzanne Beaumar. Participants, ages 12 and up, will learn to set a foundation out of a patchwork of homey neutrals, as well as, how to shape an image frame with stencils, paints, paint pens and charcoal pencil. Class meets Saturday, November 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is only $35 per person; plus a $25 supply fee.

Bob Ross Certified Oil Painting Class – Fall Barn Landscape

Experience the “Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross Certified Instructor, Quintin Burlingame as he leads students, ages 13 and up, through the wet-on-wet method of oil painting made famous by this legendary artist. Whether new to painting or an expert, all will enjoy learning the techniques in this 3-hour class which will culminate in a beautiful 12×16 painting. The class will be held on Saturday, November 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is $60 per person and includes all materials.

Mixed Media Workshop: Winter Trees

Get a jump on the holidays by making your own Winter Wonderland in this 4-hour mixed media on 11×14 canvas workshop with instructor Suzanne Beaumar. Participants, ages 12 and up, will create a special holiday project with a variety of techniques and mediums including stenciling and building layers, collage, incorporating sentiments into your art and more. Class meets Saturday, November 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Cost is only $35 per person; plus a $20 supply fee.

Art Journaling and Mindfulness

Now, more than ever, we all can benefit from learning how to work out our thoughts and feelings. Instructor, Suzanne Beaumar will show you the way in this ongoing, weekly journaling class. Participants will use a variety of mediums and mindfulness techniques to help calm and relax a racing mind when living in uncertain and stressful times. Classes for teens and adults, ages 12 and up, meet on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Williamson County Enrichment Center, 110 Everbright Avenue, in Franklin. Cost is $15 per class, plus a $5 weekly supply fee and one-time $20 book fee.
