Letters from the Heart’ capture love of a lifetime

When Dana “Cobby” Webb and Evelyn Groves met and fell instantly in love during a USO dance at the YMCA in Nashville in June 1943, their love endured a 14-month long-distance romance while Dana went through pilot training. Then the couple was apart almost a year when he went off to war. Through it all, handwritten letters and infrequent visits kept the romance and love alive.

When the war ended, they were reunited and the next chapter of their lives began. Dana became an aeronautical engineer at Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. They created a loving, happy home in which they raised their three children. For ten years, the family thrived and their devotion to one another grew – until tragedy struck in June, 1955 when the F-84 plane Dana was flying went down, and he was killed.
