Kroger Goes Green

Middle TN and Southern KY area Kroger stores and their customers came together for an important cause, raising $60,869 in Shamrocks Against Dystrophy donations. Each year Kroger locations support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) research and services programs and this year raised close to $17,000 more than last year.

From mid-January to late-February, Kroger stores sold green and gold shamrocks to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association at over 60 locations in Middle TN and Southern KY. Funds raised by Kroger stores send local kids battling a neuromuscular disease to MDA summer camp at The Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY.  Kroger funds will also go to supporting individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases.

“We are so pleased to be able to partner with MDA in their annual Shamrock campaign,” said Melissa Eads, Kroger community affairs manager.   “Our customers and employees really responded to the campaign this year, and helped us achieve such wonderful results.   We know that this money will really make a difference to those who suffer from this disease.”

The popular fundraiser also helps to support MDA’s Vanderbilt Medical Center clinics for MDA and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). These clinics allow patients to see a series of specialists at no cost to their family.

MDA is very honored to have the support of such a fantastic company as Kroger, as well as the generosity of their area citizens, in the fight to find cures for muscle disease,” said Amanda Spiehler, MDA Nashville’s Executive Director. “We’re continually in awe of both Kroger and their customers giving spirit.”
