ART CLASSES FOR KIDS
AT THE LONGVIEW RECREATION CENTER
 
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department announces new art classes for kids in February at the Longview Recreation Center at Spring Hill, 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill. We are a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone, including out-of-county residents, can register for and participate in our classes – even if you don’t have a facility pass! DEB’Z DOODLEZ
Kids ages 8 and up who love to draw will enjoy creating their own work of art in this fun-filled class. Using basic shapes each child will create a drawing, and then use colored pencils, pastels and watercolors to create a masterpiece. Deb’z Doodlez will meet on Thursdays, February 5th – 26th from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. The 4-week course is $45 plus a supply fee of $5. CREATIVE POETRY WRITING & POETRY PEOPLE ARTWORK
Children ages 6-11 will listen to and discuss poetry by talented artists such as Silverstein and Rhymes and create their own four-line poems. Children will also learn about lettering. They will then create people from matte board, markers and wire and will letter their poems onto the torsos creating a unique piece of artwork. Children may choose to do a second poetry person or create a poetry companion animal. This class will meet on Fridays, February 13th – March 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost of the 6-week class is $60 and there is a supply fee of $5. LOOM KNITTING
In this class, participants of all ages will learn to knit an attractive ribbon scarf using round looms which can then be used to create dozens of projects! Students will need to bring their own supplies to class, and a supply list will be provided upon registration. Loom Knitting will meet on Tuesdays, February 17th– 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The class fee is $20. For more information call Twila Dry at 302-0781. T-SHIRT QUILT
In this class participants will learn how to plan, cut t-shirts and begin to sew the blocks together to make a quilt top. Ten to 15 clean t-shirts from sports teams, church activities, high school and/or college, plus material for backing will be needed to create a one of a kind quilt. This is a beginner class for ages 12 and up. A limited number of sewing machines are available by registration, or you can bring your own. The class will meet on Saturdays, February 21st and 28th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. The cost for the 2-week course is $20 plus a supply fee of $10. The instructor will be Pam Olds.
