Here’s what’s happening in July at the Frist

First up

Not quite July, but a reminder that FRIST FRIDAYS kick off this Friday with a big night of American rock ‘n’ art. The Long Players will do their best Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in the courtyard, and new this year, artists from our current shows will lead interactive programs in the galleries. Details on the Frist Center Calendar of Events_July-September 2017.

One of those artists, Vadis Turner, will also bring some hands-on artmaking workshops to kids around town this month: Her Mini-ARTlabs (for ages 11–18) will be offered at the Oasis Center on Tuesday, July 11 and at Rocketown on Thursday, July 13. She will also offer an ARTlab (for ages 15–18) here at the Frist Center on Thursday, July 27–Friday, July 28.

Haven’t seen State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now yet? Or you have and want to know how and why all of those lottery tickets, dollar bills, and prescription pill bottles were transformed into staggering works of art? Join chief curator Mark Scala for agallery tour on Thursday, July 13.

Next

PechaKucha has arrived in Nashville and it’s happening in our auditorium on Friday, July 21. It will be a fun, informal, and enlightening evening of idea swapping centered around the theme “Shaping an Artful Community.” The 20 images X 20 seconds format will be led by visionary thinkers and doers around town. Presented in partnership with the Nashville Civic Design Center. Registration here.

Our second Frist Friday will be on Friday, July 28. Buzz around to the sparkly sounds of ELEL; meet and learn from artists Zack Hall, Beth Reitmeyer, and John Warren in the galleries. Check out this short video for a preview.

Going, going…

This Friday is also the last day to purchase a “Summer Pass”—$30 for unlimited admission all summer, including all three Frist Friday concerts. It’s valid from the date of purchase through Labor Day.
