The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of ongoing  health and wellness programs for teens and adults at the Franklin Recreation Complex, located at 1120 Hillsboro Road.  For more information about activities at the Franklin Recreation Complex call (615) 790-5719, ext. 2010 or view the monthly newsletter at www.wcparksandrec.com.  You may also receive department information by “liking” us on Facebook. Williamson County Parks and Recreation is a public organization, here to benefit the community. Anyone can register for and participate in the department’s programs, teams, classes and events. Pre-registration is required for all classes (unless otherwise noted).

Tap into your body’s energy, reduce your daily stress and feel energized. This class introduces the ancient Chinese healing art and exercise form known as Tai Chi, using smooth continuous low impact movements. Tai Chi will be offered Tuesdays, August  20-September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Rd. The six-week session is $72. Instructor: Susan Schmitter. Plyometrics is for anyone who wants to get faster, jump higher or move quicker. This program uses explosive jumping exercises for maximum results. Plyometrics is offered Sundays, September 1-29 (3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.) and Wednesdays, September 4-25 (4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Classes are $10 each, and open to ages 10 through adults. A variety of aerobics classes are offered daily at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Ongoing classes include: iBurn, Absoglutely, Zumba, Chisel and Sculpt, Pilates, Nite Club Cardio, Urban Fusion and PILOXING. The walk-in rate is $6 for adults and $4 for teens (ages 13-17) per class. Indoor cycling classes are offered daily at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Beginning cycling is offered along with extended ride classes. All classes are open to the public. Cycling classes are $8 for adults and $4 for teens (ages 13-17). Discount monthly passes are also available No registration required. Water aerobics classes are offered Monday-Saturday at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road.  Class fees are $3 for Youth/Adults and $2 for Seniors (55 and older). Arthritic/post rehab classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:15 a.m.–9 a.m. Moderate to high intensity classes meet Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.–10 a.m., Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m.–7 p.m., and Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m.–6:30 p.m.  Low to moderate intensity classes meet MondayFriday from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; Annual passes and punch cards do not cover class fees.  No registration required. Walk-ins welcome.

People of any age and physical condition may participate in this Martial Arts program.  Instructor Eric Melton designed the class to bring the beginner into a high level of physical well being!  The adult class is offered on an ongoing basis, Wednesdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.,  at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. Learn the basics of yoga through simple postures and breathing techniques. Discover the benefits of yoga in achieving a better energy level and deeper rest. Beginners Yoga meets Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., September 3-24.  The four-week course is $40. YOGA–Gentle and Restorative
Experience the nurturing effects of yoga in a quieter, slow class. This class is great for older beginners or someone with injuries. Gentle and Restorative Yoga meets Thursday evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., September 5-26.  The four-week course is $40. Learn to harness the power of Hatha yoga to strengthen your body, soften your heart and clear your mind. This class is a flowing practice of basic yoga postures intertwined with demonstrations. This level 1 class is appropriate for adults in good health who have previously taken an introduction to yoga class. Yoga meets Thursdays, September 5-26  from  6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. The four-week course is $40 and can be joined in progress. This Saturday class is designed to release the stresses of the work week and recharge the spirit. This class is appropriate for all levels of yogis. Yoga meets Saturdays, September 7-21  from  9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The three-week course is $30 and can be joined in progress.
