FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE— Historic Downtown Franklin, Tenn. celebrates St. Patrick’s Day early on Saturday, March 14, 2009, with Féile (pro: “FAY-LA”) Franklin – A Celtic festival on historic Main Street! 

Streets will be closed to traffic and filled with Irish music, dance, food and fun. It’s a free street festival from noon to 10 p.m. with a ticketed beer and Irish whiskey tasting in the Main Street area shops from 6 to 9 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to find safe ways to celebrate. The Franklin Transit Authority provides transportation to and from any address inside the city limits of Franklin for $5 round trip per person. Reservations are required and may be made by emailing sconnor@tma.org.

Also, non-drinking attendees may accompany ticket holders at no cost. Coffee and tea will be served at Philanthropy, 432 Main Street, which is also the drop off and pick up point for the transit service for the evening.

Féile Franklin caps off a day of activity on March 14, which starts at 12 p.m. and includes Irish dance and music performances on Main Street, special Celtic vendors and crafts and festival foods. Main Street will be closed for the two blocks between the Public Square and Five Points that day.

The street will be filled with roasted potatoes, fried potatoes, turkey legs, fish and chips and all things Irish. More than two dozen Irish bands and dance groups will be featured on two stages throughout the event. At night, specialty and imported beers will be sampled at the shops.

Ticket holders will check in at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Main Street to get their special tasting glasses, a map to the tasting sites, and a description of the beers and Irish whiskey to sample.

Tickets are $30 per person in advance and are available at The Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County; Landmark Booksellers, McCreary’s Irish Pub, What’s In Store, on the website www.downtownfranklintn.com or www.historicfranklin.com. To order tickets by phone, call 615-591-8500.

All proceeds will go to Downtown Franklin Association for promotion and continued revitalization of the historic district, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and designated by the National Trust as a Great American Main Street.
