Bluegrass

This year’s Bluegrass along the Harpeth Fiddlers’ Jamboree honors the memories of Grand Ole Opry legends Sam and Kirk McGee on Friday and Saturday, July 24 and 25, at the Williamson County Courthouse in downtown Franklin.

Festivities begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. In the event of rain, the festivities will be held in the Franklin City parking garage on Second Avenue.

The free event features musicians of all ages in a variety of music competitions in categories including mandolin, fiddle, flat top guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bluegrass bands and old time string bands. Freestyle clogging and buckdance competitions will also be held. Rocky Top Revue, Jackson Hollow and Little Harpeth square dancers will all perform. In addition to the music, arts and crafts and food booths will populate the downtown area.

Phillip Steinmetz and his Sunny Tennesseans will offer a special performance at noon on Saturday. Dedicated to carrying on the family tradition of old-time mountain music, Steinmetz is the great-nephew of Grand Ole Opry legend Grandpa Jones. Also appearing on stage will be Jimmy McGee, grandson of Sam McGee, another Opry legend.

Bluegrass along the Harpeth Fiddlers’ Jamboree is a family-oriented event. Proceeds from the festival benefit the Williamsons County Cultural Arts Commission.
